What Is A Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician?

Finding and connecting with a health professional who is experienced in eating disorders can be challenging. The choice of clinician can potentially impact the recovery journeys of people living with an eating disorder. A Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician (CEDC) is a mental health professional or dietitian who has received the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential. This means they have completed specific training in eating disorders and their professional development requirements are current.

How Was The Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician Program Developed?

Due to the increased prevalence of eating disorders over the last 3 years (seemingly as a result of Covid 19), the Federal Government allocated $26.4 million to increase access, research and advocacy for people with eating disorders. As a part of this, a credentialing program was developed for dietitians and mental health professionals. This new program launched on 30th June 2022 and is called the “ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential”

At The Eatwise Clinic we have two fully credentialled dietitians, Julia Phillips & Alex McClelland.

To get the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential, our clinicians must meet the following criteria:

  • Eating disorder-specific training to understand the signs and impacts

  • Training in at least one evidence-based model of eating disorder treatment

  • At least two years of experience in clinical mental health practice or dietetic practice

  • Receive clinical supervision for their eating disorder practice to support their ongoing professional development

  • Complete 15 hours of additional professional development in eating disorders per year

All Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinicians have been through an application process, managed by ANZAED, which includes providing evidence of meeting the above criteria. Here are Julia’s and Alex’s profile on the Connect-ED website.
